November 11 – Spirit and Place Festival: Join Senior Academy at our Spirit and Place session called “Quiet as a Gateway.” Guided by practitioners of different faiths and an art therapist, this event invites guests to feel the power of quiet through dialogue, practice, and art-making activities. The program is presented as a partnership with Indianapolis First Friends Meeting on Saturday, November 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the First Friends Main Meeting Room. November 15 – Senior Academy Book Club: Marianne Wokeck leads discussion of Nicole Eustace’s Covered with Night: A Story of Murder and Indigenous Justice in Early America. The book club meets on Zoom from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Register to get the Zoom link. Note: So you can read ahead, the December book club selection is Pádraig Ó Tuama’s Poetry Unbound: 50 Poems to Open Your World. December 14 – Holiday Gathering: Save the date for a special SA holiday party from 2 to 4 p.m. on December 14. This year, we will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres and have much more time and space for visiting than permitted at our usual lunch. Also, we will meet in a new (to us) and interesting venue – Indy’s Global Village Welcome Center at 4233 Lafayette Road. The space also features galleries that are free and open to the public. January 23 – “Treasures from the Lilly Library”: In this Zoom session lasting from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Colleen Kuhn, President of the Portfolio Club in Indianapolis, will present little-known information about the treasures in The Lilly Library on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington. There are world masterpieces of literature, music, and so much more! The registration link will open soon – watch the Senior Academy Events page for details.

String Theory – During 2023, String Theory members generated 130 items – hats, scarves, and hat/scarf sets. The items are being donated to the IU Cancer Center, the IU Student Outreach Clinic, Gennesaret Free Clinic, and Exodus Refugee Immigration for distributing to needy clients.
2023 Bepko Medallion – Kathy Johnson, former Executive Vice Chancellor at IUPUI, receives the 2023 Gerald L. Bepko Community Medallion award from IUPUI Senior Academy President Becky Porter and Sharon Holland, chair of the Bepko Medallion committee at the 30th Anniversary Celebration October 5.
