SPRING EVENTS: Meet and Greet at Robin Run – If you can’t come to us, we’ll come to you! On Thursday, March 23rd from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Senior Academy is hosting the first of a series of social events for IUPUI retirees. This inaugural event is at Robin Run Village, 5354 W. 62nd Street in Indianapolis. All Senior Academy members are invited. Also, if you know of an IUPUI retiree who lives in the vicinity of Robin Run, please extend an invitation, whether they are SA members or not. Besides socializing, we will be videotaping folks for a “Thank You, IUPUI” tribute at the SA 30th Anniversary Celebration. Please register if you plan to attend. Senior Fraud – A Zoom-delivered program on how to avoid scams that target seniors will be April 2, time TBD. Sponsored by Senior Academy and Always United, the program will feature fraud prevention specialists from the FBI and First Merchants Bank. Watch for details in this newsletter, or check the Senior Academy Upcoming Events page. Meet and Greet at Marquette Manor – a second socializing session at a retirement community is coming up in April. Please watch our Facebook page or Upcoming Events page for details. Wines for Spring – Giles Hoyt will lead us in a wine-tasting adventure on May 4 at 4 p.m. Details forthcoming. Annual Meeting – Mark your calendar for the Annual Meeting at Eagle Creek Park on June 15th at 11:30 a.m. ONGOING INTEREST GROUP ACTIVITIES: Volunteers needed for Midwest Food Bank event. Senior Academy will partner with Always United for a food-sorting event on Wednesday, March 22, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Midwest Food Bank’s Indianapolis location, 6450 S. Belmont. Helping at Midwest is always rewarding. A food bank takes large food donations and repackages them for local food pantries, so your 3 hours at Midwest will benefit folks served by 300 local agencies. Register to get details. The SA Book Club meets over Zoom on March 15th at 11 a.m. to discuss The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward by Daniel Pink. Want to read ahead? The April 19th book is Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning WW II novel, All the Light We Cannot See. Register for each to get the Zoom link. String Theory meets March 14th and April 11th, working on cold-weather wear for folks who lack hats and scarves. If you don’t do needlework, they will give you lessons! Register for each month’s session to learn the meeting place. Outdoor Activities – We are invited to a Plant Swap in May. Details to be announced. OTHER NOTES: Call for volunteers – if you’d like to help with Senior Academy but don’t have a lot of time to devote, please consider volunteering for a committee. Committees often meet from home, over Zoom. Contact Mark Grove ( ude[dot]iupui[at]evorgm) or board President Georgia Miller ( ude[dot]cupui[at]rellimg) to volunteer for a committee. We are looking for members for these committees:
