Steve Kirchhoff and Christy Tidwell volunteered at Midwest Food Bank in November to scope out Midwest’s suitability for a future Senior Academy volunteer event. They spent a morning preparing 500 bags of Kellogg’s wheat cereal for distribution to food pantries. Steve, who is the coordinator of our volunteer projects, concluded that Midwest is an “impressive organization.”

Season’s greetings to you and your loved ones!
Some end-of-the-year reminders:
- Last chance to volunteer with Senior Academy in this calendar year: You can still sign up to volunteer with Senior Academy at Changing Footprints, on Thursday, December 8th, from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. ET. Yes, we are sorting used shoes, but it’s really fun. Plus, it’s rewarding to sort and pack shoes for folks who don’t have any. Look up the details or register for this event.
- Want to give a loved one some hints for your holiday wish list? Here is the list of books the
Senior Academy Book Club will discuss next year. Maybe you’d like one or two as a gift.
Registration is now open for all of the discussions.
- Moonwalking with Einstein by Joshua Foer (January 18, 2023)
- An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden World around Us by Ed Yong (February 15, 2023)
- The Power of Regret by Daniel Pink (March 15, 2023)
- All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (April 19, 2023)
- Contemplating end-of-the year donations? Consider one of our Senior Academy Scholarship Funds or the Senior Academy General Fund.
2023 programs:
The Senior Academy Program Committee is planning winter and spring activities. Possible events include:
- Another webinar patterned after our popular Transition to Retirement series;
- An art and garden tour of Newfields;
- A presentation on the history of Eagle Creek Park;
- An outdoor wine- or beer-tasting workshop;
- Activities celebrating Senior Academy’s 30th anniversary.
Small group activities based on member interests will resume in early spring, too—outdoor activities, the String Theory group, volunteering and mentoring, and more.
Watch for details!
New Year’s resolutions:
We’ve updated our Senior Academy website and our Facebook page, so people can see what we are up to. We resolve to triple our number of Facebook followers in 2023, so please like us and follow us and invite your friends to do so as well.
Our website has a pretty fancy Member Center for you to use. If you haven’t signed in and updated your profile and your interests, please make it your resolution to do so—it takes only a moment.
