Senior Academy’s String Theory group donated dozens of knitted scarves and hats for clients at the IU Student Outreach Clinic, held every Saturday to care for uninsured and underserved residents of Indianapolis. The clinic provides medical, dental, legal, and social services and is staffed by IU students and supervising faculty.

Fall brings a whirlwind of events for Senior Academy!
Coming up fast:
- The Last Lecture on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Campus Center Theater, 420 University Boulevard. Dr. Sherry Queener draws inspiration from her lifetime of teaching and learning in her talk called “Fighting Fair,” about how to turn conflict into productive action. Queener is professor emerita of pharmacology and toxicology in the School of Medicine and former associate dean of the IU Graduate School. Register to attend The Last Lecture.
- “Looking Forward: Black Indianapolis Artists Imagine the Future,” a Spirit and Place Festival event, is Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Basile Auditorium, 735 West New York Street, on the IUPUI campus. Contemporary African American artists present a panel discussion followed by gallery tours. The program is co-sponsored by Senior Academy and The Herron School of Art + Design. No pre-registration is necessary.
- Senior Academy will host an on-campus watch party to view the webinar “The Psychology of Retirement,” presented by IU Human Resources, November 11, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. The on-campus location is the Senior Academy boardroom, CE 266 in the Student Center. Parking will be provided, as will treats and drinks. HR staff will be on hand for general questions. If you wish to watch the webinar from home, register.
- “Smart Giving: Why, When, and How” will livestream November 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Can you share your time and dollars with organizations and causes you care about, but in ways that benefit you as well? Find out how from Eugene Temple, Professor of Philanthropic Studies; Founding Dean Emeritus, Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy; and President Emeritus, Indiana University Foundation. He will be assisted by Michael Caldwell, Manager of Estate Gift Planning of United Way of Central Indiana. The webinar is co-sponsored by Senior Academy and United Way. - Book club! Steve Kirchhoff leads discussion of Adam Grant’s 2021 book Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know. Brené Brown says this book “builds the intellectual and emotional muscle we need to stay curious enough about the world to actually change it.” The Senior Academy Book Club meets online November 16 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. - Midwest Food Bank: Join Senior Academy members volunteering at the Midwest Food Bank (midwestfoodbank.org/locations/indianapolis-in) on Mon., Nov. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tasks may include re-boxing bread, labeling cans, re-packaging and labeling bulk food, or pre-loading pallets for distribution day. - Save the date! IUPUI Senior Academy’s Holiday Luncheon will be Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Courses Restaurant (Penthouse floor), Ivy Tech Culinary Center, 2820 N. Meridian St. The menu is Classical French. The cost per person is $30.00, with reservations due November 16th. Register to attend.
- Changing Footprints: Please join us for another volunteer opportunity at Changing Footprints (www.changingfootprints.org) on Thursday, December 8, from 12 noon - 2:00 p.m. at their Carmel facility.
